A Living Memorial | Day 2 Freedom Season Devotional

Scripture: Romans 12:1
"Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship." (NASB)
While we honor the fallen, we are also called to be living memorials. Our daily choices, our values, and how we live can all reflect the cost of freedom. The Greek word for "bodies" used in this verse is "soma." While it is typically interpreted to mean a physical body, one of the meanings of this word is "a large or small number of men closely united into one society, or family; a social or ethical body."
So whether individually or corporately, we are called to present ourselves to him as a living and holy sacrifice or worship. Worship is more than songs on Sunday; it's how we live every day. We worship Him in the our thoughts, words and actions. We worship Him by the way we treat one another (John 13:35). Leaving behind a mindset of bondage and embracing a mindset that values liberty and freedom is an act of worship to Him. "It was for freedom that Christ set us free." (Galatians 5:1 NASB) Our individual and corporate sacrifice of worship is holy and it will draw others to His truth.
Reflection: In what ways can you be a "living memorial" to God's grace and freedom today?
Prayer: Father, let my life be a reflection of Your mercy and truth. Teach me how to live with purpose and humility, led by Your Holy Spirit in the little things that carry a big impact. In the name of Jesus, amen.
