Scripture: Joshua 1:9
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (NASB)
When God called Joshua to lead, He didn’t promise an easy road - but He did promise His presence. What a promise!
We all face uncertain times. Sometimes it is a personal struggle. Other times it is on a larger scale like a family issue or even a national concern. But one thing is true in every situation. Our Abba Father has promised over and over in His word that He is always with us.
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” (Deut. 31:8)
There is great comfort in the promise of His presence. This comfort yields the fruit of confidence in who He is. And the confidence fuels our courage. We can boldly enter into any situation He calls us into knowing that the God of the Universe is right there with us every step of the way.
When David faced Goliath, he entered the battlefield not confident in his own ability, but with a steadfast faith in His God. He knew who God is and what He is capable of. He also knew that it was time for the defiance of a godless nation to be dealt with and for God’s people to gain the victory. David walked into battle that day a shepherd, but he walked off the battlefield a victorious warrior and future king.
Courage isn’t the absence of fear, but obedience in the face of it.
Reflection: Where do you need courage to obey God today?
Prayer: Father, I trust You. Help me to be strong and courageous as I follow You. Help me to feel Your presence in every moment, no matter how daunting the situation may seem. I choose to lean into Your promise to always be with me and never forsake me. Thank You for Your presence, Your promise and Your peace. Amen.
