Called to Live Free | Day 12 Freedom Season Devotional

Scripture: Galatians 5:13
For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love. (NASB)
Freedom is a calling, not a license. Some see freedom as being able to do whatever you want whenever you want, wherever you want, regardless of how it affects others. But this understanding of freedom only breeds anarchy and chaos. The Spirit of Liberty understands that personal responsibility and accountability are foundational to true freedom.
In this same chapter in Galatians 5, Paul reminds us of the words of Jesus, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” As children of liberty, we are free from the bondage of sin so we can walk in love. Toward the end of this chapter, we are shown what the fruit of the Spirit looks like - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc. Only when we walk in the Spirit of Liberty are we free to produce the fruit of His spirit in our lives.
God calls us to use liberty to serve one another, not to pursue selfish ambitions. Freedom finds its fullness in love.
Reflection: How can you use your freedom to serve others today?
Prayer: Jesus, show me how to use the liberty You have given me for Your kingdom purposes. Teach me to see others through Your eyes and to love them as You have loved me. Amen.
