Give Thanks in All Things | Day 29 Freedom Season Devotional

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:18
In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. (NASB)
A couple of years ago, I began a healing journey. Over the course of fourteen months, it involved five hospital stays and seven surgeries. The recovery process took much longer and is actually still ongoing after almost two-and-a-half years. One of the lessons I have learned during this healing and recovery process is the importance of gratitude in all things.
There were many times when it was very frustrating to come to grips with what I had lost in terms of independence and functionality – even if for a season. But when I intentionally changed my attitude from one of complaining about what I could not do for myself to one of gratitude for the things I could still do, it shifted my perspective and restored peace to my heart. Over time, I have regained the ability to do most things for myself without assistance. For this, I am truly thankful.
Whatever you are facing today, your Heavenly Father sees, and He knows. Sometimes, it is a matter of simply praying His word with a thankful heart into a situation that seems impossible. For example, if a financial need seems looming, a prayer could look like, “Father, thank You that Your word says that You are Jehovah Jireh, my provider and that You will provide all my needs. Thank You that Your word reminds me that if You tend to the needs of the lilies and the sparrows, how much more do You care for me.
Embracing a heart posture of gratitude changes our perspective. Even in hardship, thankfulness acknowledges God's presence and His goodness.
Reflection: Is there a situation you are facing today that is weighing heavy on you? How can you turn around your perspective to one of thankfulness that will strengthen your faith in the goodness of God?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me where I am. Thank you for Your faithfulness and Your goodness. Give me heaven’s perspective on every situation I find myself in today. Give me Your eyes to see and show me at least one thing in even the hard situations that I can be thankful for. I love You. Amen.
