Living in the Light of Legacy | Day 7 Freedom Season Devotional
Share
Scripture: Hebrews 12:1
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”
We stand on the shoulders of heroes. Their legacy should propel us forward, not leave us idly taking for granted the freedoms we have, unbothered by the costly price that has been paid for those freedoms. Gaining liberty is a serious matter, but maintaining it is just as serious.
The price Jesus paid on the cross for our salvation is a free gift. We can do nothing to earn or purchase it. As citizens of His kingdom, we enjoy certain benefits because we are His children. We also carry certain responsibilities to further His kingdom as instructed in His Word.
Similarly, as citizens of the United States, we have certain rights just by being born here or by going through the process to become a legal citizen. We also carry certain responsibilities, among which are the responsibilities to educate ourselves about our system of government, to elect righteous leaders, to hold them accountable for the choices they make on our behalf and to protect and defend the liberties we now enjoy for future generations.
Let us leave to our children and grandchildren a national foundation of liberty and justice for all and the tools with which to build on that foundation. Let us live in a way that future generations will look back and say, "They were faithful."
Reflection: What legacy do you want to leave behind? What are some practical steps you can make to make sure that happens?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me live with purpose and vision. Let my life point others to You, Your ways and Your heart. Amen.
