One Body, Many Parts | Day 22 Freedom Season Devotional

One Body, Many Parts | Day 22 Freedom Season Devotional

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:12
For just as the body is one and yet has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. (NASB)

The beauty of one body with many parts is undeniable. Each part has its own purpose and function, and no one part can effectively replace any other part. The body needs them all to function properly. Paul explains this here in 1 Corinthians.

But we also see it in the Old Testament. As Israel was making her way through the wilderness to the Promised Land, God provided a clear order for them to camp and advance in. Each tribe had their own unique blessing, strength and assignment. Judah led out as the worshiping/warrior tribe. Issachar knew the times and seasons. Zebulun brought the financial provision. Other tribes were fearless in battle, while still others were tasked with protecting the ark and the holy things.

Even in the building of the tabernacle, we are told of certain individuals and families who each brought their own special skill sets to the table. Some were metal workers, some were artisans, some were master craftsmen, some worked with fabrics. Some were singers and musicians, others tended to the inner court items and the Holy of Holies itself. They were twelve tribes, each made up of many families, but they were one nation - Israel.

Unity doesn’t mean uniformity. God created us each with unique gifts, skills and personalities, yet we are one body in Christ. When we value one another’s contribution, we reflect His design.

Reflection: You have a unique combination of natural and spiritual gifts, personality and skills that is all your own. What does that look like? How can you use that unique combination to further God's kingdom on earth?

Prayer: Father, thank You for making us one in Christ. Thank You for the unique person You have made me to be. Teach me to recognize and value the unique gifts You’ve placed in others. Show me how to honor You with my own gifts and to serve Your body well. Amen.
