Scripture: Romans 5:3-4
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. (NKJV)
We all face difficult times. It’s a simple fact of life. But it’s what we do with and in those situations that produces our ultimate outcome.
Looking at the meanings of the Greek words in this verse, here is what we find:
Glory - boast; rejoice
Tribulation - pressing, pressing together, pressure
Perseverance - patience, steadfastness; patient enduring
Character - approved; tried character; proven
Hope - joyful and confident expectation
So ,essentially, this verse could read:
And not only that, but we also rejoice in the pressures of life, knowing that pressure produces steadfastness, and steadfastness, a tried and proven character; and a tried and proven character, a joyful and confident expectation.
God doesn’t waste our suffering. Every trial is an opportunity for Him to refine our character and deepen our hope in Him and what He will do. Hallelujah!
Reflection: Think back to one of the hardships you have endured. How has God grown and matured you through that experience?
Prayer: Father, thank You for turning trials into training. Grow my character through every challenge. Continue making me into the image of Your Son, Jesus. Remind me to look for and embrace the joy in the journey. Amen.
