Remembering the Fallen | Day 4 Freedom Season Devotional

Scripture: Psalm 116:15
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful ones." (NRSV)

Any life ended leaves a hole in the hearts of those left behind. But a life given on behalf of or in defense of others just hits differently. When we honor the fallen, we reflect the heart of God.

In my family tree there are individuals who fought in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World War II, Vietnam and Afghanistan. Some came home. Some didn't.

When Memorial Day rolls around each year, I think about those who never came home, both family members and the many more I never knew. I remember with gratitude the lives they sacrificed. I am honored to come from a line of men and women who had the courage of conviction that liberty is worth fighting ... and dying ... for. May we never take for granted the price they paid for what we enjoy today.

Take time today to speak the name of someone who served and sacrificed.

Reflection: How can you actively honor someone’s memory this week?

Prayer: Father, I ask You to bless the families of those who gave all. You've seen every drop of blood that has been spilled and every tear that has been shed as a result. Let their memories inspire us to live honorably and humbly before You. In Jesus' name, amen.
