Serving from Gratitude | Day 33 Freedom Season Devotional

Serving from Gratitude | Day 33 Freedom Season Devotional

Scripture: Colossians 3:23–24
Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord and not for people, knowing that it is from the Lord that you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. (NASB)

Sometimes we’d just really rather be doing something else. That’s the truth of the matter. But it is the grateful heart that recognizes that even tasks that may seem insignificant can have a significant impact.

Setting our hands to what needs to be done with an attitude of joyful submission to the Lord accomplishes several things. First, it brings honor to Him. The attitude with which we serve will either reflect His nature or reveal our flesh. Second, it becomes a building block of our maturity as sons and daughters of the King. Every time we serve with gratitude, the roots of our being transformed into His image go a little deeper. And thirdly, it enables us to lead by example.

Bonus - finishing boring, menial or otherwise unpleasant but necessary things with a thankful heart wipes those things off our “to-do” list, freeing up our time, energy and resources to move on to other things.

Gratitude transforms how we serve. Even mundane tasks can be holy when done with a heart full of thanks.

Reflection: How does gratitude shape your approach to work or service? What is one area you need to apply gratitude to in order to do it as unto the Lord?

Prayer: Jesus, I want my work to be worship. Fill me with joy in serving You and others. Help me to reflect Your heart in whatever I set my hand to and bring honor to Your name in all things. Amen.
