The Bell Still Rings | BONUS Freedom Season Devotional

Scripture: Leviticus 25:10
Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof. (ASV)
One of the most iconic symbols of American history and liberty is the Liberty Bell, which arrived in Philadelphia in 1752. In February of 1876, just before the planned celebration of George Washington’s birthday, an attempt was made to repair a hairline fracture in the bell and restore its tone. Unfortunately, the end result was an even larger crack and the bell was silenced permanently.
Although the Liberty Bell no longer physically rings, the message on its inscription from Lev.25:10 still rings true in the hearts of Americans around the world as a reminder that like our founding documents declare, liberty is for everyone, endowed by God Himself and entrusted to us to steward and pass down from generation to generation.
The crack in the Liberty Bell serves as a reminder that even scarred things can be beautiful. Our nation still bears the marks of brokenness. Families need healing. Communities long for peace. Truth is often overshadowed by confusion, and many hearts are searching for lasting hope. Even though we are far from perfect, America is still a beautiful ideal and one of the most blessed nations on earth. When we faithfully answer God's call to steward whatever sphere of influence He has entrusted to us, the healing, repair and restoration naturally follow.
The bell still rings. Not because our nation is perfect, but because God is still calling us to live faithfully, love courageously, and build on the only foundation that will never be shaken … Him and His kingdom.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the freedom You have called us to walk in. Thank You for the men and women who dared to pledge their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to establish a nation that would stand as a beacon of hope, truth and liberty to every heart yearning to live in the freedom You created us for. Use me to help build a legacy of faith for generations to come. In Jesus' name, Amen.
