The Blessing of Boundaries | Day 14 Freedom Season Devotional

Scripture: Psalm 119:45
And I will walk at liberty, for I seek Your precepts. (NASB)
Freedom is not the absence of boundaries but the presence of righteousness. Godly boundaries protect and elevate both individuals and nations.
The Hebrew word here in Psalm 119:45 for “liberty” is actually an adjective (rähäb) that means “broad” or “wide.” The concept here is that within the proper boundaries of God’s precepts (statutes, commands) there is freedom to move about in a wide space.
Many years ago I heard about a social experiment that was conducted with children on a playground. The play area was very large and the children were allowed to roam free as they wished. But most of them remained in close proximity to the play equipment rather than running and playing freely. The absence of boundaries made them feel insecure and hesitant to leave the safe area close to the equipment. Once a fence was added, the boundaries were established, and the children then felt safe to run freely all over the playground. And they did.
God’s Word provides safe boundaries within which we can live completely free. Bonus - there is safety within those boundaries as well.
Reflection: What Godly boundaries help you flourish in your daily life?
Prayer: Righteous Father, shape my heart and my nation. Teach us to walk in ways that honor You. When I feel inhibited by the boundaries in Your Word, help me see them in the light of truth and remind me that Your precepts are there for my protection and within them there is total and complete liberty. Amen.
